Note from Chief of Field Staff, MAY 2011.

Humanitarian relief on the ground

Conditions in Mcgilldishu have spiraled. The city has been badly damaged from the ongoing violence and breaking of the ceasefire.

Oxfam field staff are working tirelessly to increase it's aid provision in this city. Many have been hurt and affected by the violence, so we have been forced to temporarily change the mandate of our mobile health units. We have had to suspend the provision of inoculations and out-reach programs in order to provide more supplies and personnel to assisting the Emergency Care Centre and helping those who have been injured in the violence. We hope to help stabilise this situation as soon as possible so we can once again resume our long-term projects of health initiatives within the community.

IN ORDER FOR OXFAM TO MAINTAIN AND EXPAND ITS WORK IN BRYNANIA WE ARE URGENTLY REQUESTING AN UPSURGE IN INTERNATIONAL AID COMMITTMENTS.
Due to the on-going conflict Oxfam is urging the local and international aid communities to stand behind the aid agencies working within Brynania during this difficult period. Please show your commitment to creating peace and stability in this region by supporting OXFAM.

We are currently also continuing our work in Camp 8. The situation there has moved from SEVERE to SERIOUS, a major improvement! Again, in order to continue promoting stability in peace in this camp OXFAM NEEDS YOUR HELP. We are looking to maintain funding and resources in this area to create long-term projects that will assist the transition to peace that we are all working towards.

OXFAM has also called out for international donations for TWO NEW PROJECTS.

We are looking to establish infrastructures and aid programs in both CAMP 9 AND BIKU.
For more information on these projects please see below, in the previous post, for the breakdown of these programs.

OXFAM cannot thank its donors enough for the support they have shown us in our missions in Brynania. However, in order for us to maintain the provision of aid and continue helping the vulnerable communities within the war-torn country WE NEED CONTINUED  and ON-GOING SUPPORT.

In particular OXFAM is seeking LONG-TERM, SUSTAINABLE Donation commitments from public and private donors. Sustained help will see MASSIVE IMPROVEMENTS in the areas of female empowerment, health, sanitation, hygiene, community participation, and the distribution of emergency food, water and shelter.

We need your help
